In Search of Joy

Many a time, we feel that time has changed for the worse. Those were quite good and carefree days back then. Everyone was enjoying life, but today everyone is busy earning and accumulating goods. But if we look at it more deeply, we’ll find that what has actually changed is not just time but also we ourselves. We have lost touch with life in pursuit of material achievements. Children are still enjoying. They still have all the things we used to enjoy. In fact, every generation has this feeling of losing something of deeper meaning and value that they had and which the present generation has lost. In essence, we can understand that what we are missing is not something new that is specific to our generation. It’s more of a persistent feeling that every generation experiences. The issue is one of attitude, which changes as we grow, the value system we inculcate with age and the priorities we set for ourselves.
We can still have those old days’ fun if we shift our focus and priorities from achievements to living in the present. When we start to understand the importance of leisure and spend time on our hobbies and devote some time to our passions, that feeling of a carefree life will again start to perfume our days. We don’t need more of anything; we need to drop some baggage we’ve been carrying. It would make our journey not just comfortable but more joyous.

As they say, joy is the only measure of success. You can have everything you want: money, health, and meaningful relationships, but if you don’t have joy, you are wasting your life.
